WHAT YOU KNOW FIRST
By Patricia McLachlan
Let's Meet the Author
TO HELP US THINK ABOUT THOSE EARLY MEMORIES, I AM GOING TO READ ALOUD ONE OF MY FAVORITE PICTURE BOOKS, WHAT YOU KNOW FIRST BY PATRICIA McLACHLAN. IT IS A STORY ABOUT A GIRL ABOUT YOUR AGE WHO HAS TO MOVE AND SHE IS VERY SAD. BUT HER FATHER REMINDS HER THAT SHE CAN HOLD THE MEMORIES OF HER HOME INSIDE OF HER HEAR AND REMEMBER IT ALWAYS.
Teachable Moments....
So how will the little girl make sure she'll remember her birthplace? Let's fill in the speech bubbles as a class!

WHAT ARE YOUR FIRST READING MEMORIES? LET'S BRAINSTORM TOGETHER WITH OUR ELBOW PARTNERS. AFTER 60 SECONDS, WE WILL FILL IN OUR FIRST READING MEMORIES INTO OUR "My Favorite Thing" GRAPHIC ORGANIZER.
If we think about our warm reading memories, and think about what was special back them, we can try to create an environment in our classroom where reading will feel special too. Let's list what made your memories special.
