CHRYSANTHEMUM

Let's Meet the Author
Teachable Moments....
Today I am going to teach you another connection readers make while reading. It is called text-to-text connection. Does anyone have an idea of how we can make this kind of connection?
A text-to-text connection is when you are reading a book and it reminds you of another book you have read. It may have a similar problem or theme in the story as another book. As we listen to Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes, let's try to make a text-to-text connection with the book Crow Boy we read a few days ago.

We can see in both stories, kids are having a hard time in school and are feeling bad about themselves.
Engage
Now it's your turn to think about any two books that you have read or heard that you can make a text-to-text connection between. Turn and talk to your partner about this connection between the two books.
Share
During reading workshop today, you will read and think about text-to-text connections. On a post-it note, jot down a text-to-text connection. Later we will share why you made that connection with the other book.
